What is Telehealth?

Telehealth means you can meet with your health professional online using a phone or computer. We now offer a new telehealth option called Video Call Health Direct. This is provided by the Department of Health and Human Services.

What do I need for a Video Call appointment?

You will need:

  • A smart mobile phone, computer, laptop or tablet, with internet access (if you are using your phone’s data, there might be extra charges from your mobile phone provider if you go over your data limit)
  • Web camera, speaker and microphone (these will sometimes be built into the above devices)

If you do not have access to any of the above devices, or are confused about whether you have the right equipment, ask a family member or friend to help you. If you are still unsure, call us to see how we may be able to help on 9744 4455.

How does it work?

To start, click on the ‘Start Video Call‘ button above. Please start five minutes before your appointment for us to check your details and confirm your appointment.

Once you click to start, you will join your private waiting room. You will need to enter some personal information so that our staff can identify you. It will ask you for:

  • First and last name
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Who you are seeing today

You will then see a message, click ‘Continue‘. Once you click on ‘Continue‘ you will then be in our waiting room queue. 

One of our client services team will see you first to check your appointment, confirm your details and take payment (if needed). If you have them, please have your Healthcare Card and/or Medicare Card with you, in case they are needed. You may need to hold these up to the camera on your computer or your phone so our client services team member can securely record the details. Once that is done, we will let your health professional know that you’re ready. Please stay on the call and wait for your health professional to join you.

How do I make a telehealth appointment?

How long before my appointment should I start my call?

Ten minutes before for your first appointment. Five minutes before for following appointments.

Are there any Privacy issues?

All video calls are secure and private. The consultation will only include you and your health professional. No one else can hear your consultation. Sunbury Community Health cannot record your consultation. It will not record the personal information you provide to our staff.

Do I have to attend my telehealth appointment alone?

No. You can invite someone else to join you, such as your partner.
